GPPS offers the most complete adhesive binding services in the Bay Area. Our two high-speed perfect binders feature up to 20 pockets for plenty of versatility, as well as advanced features such as optical signature recognition to avoid misfeeds and misaligned signatures. In addition to perfect binding, GPPS can perform PUR adhesive binding and Otabind layflat adhesive binding to meet the needs of nearly any application.
Otabind
This patented process creates a true layflat adhesive-bound book. After
a paper crepe liner is attached to the book block at the spine, adhesive
is placed at the hinge scores on both covers to hold the cover and book
block together. Since the cover is not attached to the book at the spine,
the open book “floats” above the cover to lay flat. Otabind
is ideal for cookbooks, children’s books, textbooks and technical
manuals that require hands-free use combined with a printable spine.
PUR
Adhesive
PUR (polyurethane reactive) adhesive is the strongest, most durable
bookbinding adhesive available. PUR binding is a strong alternative to perfect
binding for products with heavy ink and coating coverage on all pages, or those
that will be used heavily. Books bound with PUR are flexible, lie flat when open,
and are resilient even under extreme conditions.
Perfect Binding
The standard method of adhesive binding, perfect binding involves the application
of adhesive (typically an EVA hot melt) to the roughened spine of a book
block. The cover is then applied. Design options may include foldouts,
gatefolds, pocket covers, die cutting or other distinctive choices.
