mechanical binding

These versatile binding styles allow books to lay completely flat or fold 360 degrees. Features such as mixed stocks, foldouts, index tabs and wraparound or concealed covers can easily be included. GPPS offers several styles to meet your project requirements and budget, including Wire-O™, plastic spiral and spiral wire binding.

Wire-O™
Wire-OWire-O™ (double loop binding) uses pre-formed wire loops that are bound in pairs down the spine of a book. Attractive and durable, Wire-O™ bound books can be folded 360 degrees and lie perfectly flat. This makes it an ideal choice for cookbooks, manuals, calendars and products with crossover images. Wire-O™ elements are available in standard and PMS colors.

PlasticoilPlastic Spiral
Practical and sturdy, plastic spiral (also called plastic coil) binding is performed by winding a single length of plastic binding element through holes punched in the book block. The binding elements are available in a wide array of colors and retain their shape when crushed or stepped on, making it attractive for technical manuals, cookbooks and children’s books.

Spiral Wire
Spiral CoilThe spiral wire binding process is similar to that of plastic spiral binding, only a continuous strand of coated metal wire is used rather than plastic. Spiral wire is a functional and economical option for calendars, technical manuals and handbooks.

Saddle Stitching
Saddle StitchingSaddle stitching is the process of placing collated materials over a “saddle,” and driving stitches through the backbone of the piece. Additional operations such as folding, trimming, gluing, drilling and punching may be performed in conjunction with saddle stitching to create an efficient workflow.

Loop Stitching
Loop stitching is essentially saddle stitching using larger stitches that create loops on the spine of the finished product. It’s primarily specified for projects to be used in ring binders, as the loop stitches allow books to be opened easily within a ring binder and lie flat without being removed.
